PM Shehbaz Meets Qatari Emir, Reaffirms Pakistan’s Support After Israeli Strike on Doha
Doha, Qatar – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani in Doha on Tuesday, reaffirming Pakistan’s full support and solidarity with Qatar following last week’s Israeli airstrike on the Qatari capital.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the emergency Arab-Islamic Summit in Doha, where leaders from the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) called for a review of ties with Israel after the deadly strike targeting Hamas members in Doha during Gaza ceasefire discussions.
According to a statement from the Press Information Department (PID), PM Shehbaz condemned the September 9 attack as a flagrant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and international law. He stressed that Israel’s aggression in the Middle East must end immediately, emphasizing the importance of unity within the Muslim Ummah against repeated provocations.
The meeting was described as “warm and cordial,” attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. PM Shehbaz praised Qatar’s leadership for convening the emergency Arab-Islamic summit, co-sponsored by Pakistan, and recalled that Islamabad had also requested an emergency UN Security Council session to address the escalating crisis.
The Qatari Emir expressed appreciation for PM Shehbaz’s participation in the summit and his visit to Doha to show solidarity. Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact as the regional situation unfolds.
PM Shehbaz also reiterated Pakistan’s strong condemnation of Israel’s strike on a residential area in Doha, which killed several people, including five Hamas members and a Qatari security official. He emphasized that Pakistan and Qatar share historic, fraternal ties that will continue to strengthen in the coming days.
