The Israeli army is advancing near the center of Gaza City, forcing tens of thousands of Palestinians to flee toward coastal roads as Israel pushes to drive residents out of the Strip’s main urban hub.
Residents report relentless bombardments, including drone and fighter jet strikes, as well as explosions from remote-controlled machines, with entire neighborhoods reduced to rubble amid Israel’s offensive.
At the United Nations, the United States vetoed a Security Council resolution calling for an “immediate, unconditional, and permanent” ceasefire in Gaza. The measure was supported by 14 of the 15 member states, leaving Washington isolated in its opposition.
Since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza in October 2023, at least 65,141 Palestinians have been killed and more than 165,925 wounded, with thousands still trapped under collapsed buildings. By comparison, Israel reported 1,139 deaths during the October 7 attacks, with about 200 people taken captive.
