ISLAMABAD: At least 24 new dengue cases were confirmed in the capital on Wednesday, pushing the total number of cases this season to 554, health officials reported.
According to Dr. Mazhar, the Dengue Focal Person for Islamabad Capital Territory, 16 of the new patients required hospitalization due to complications. Out of the overall tally, 417 cases were detected in rural areas, while 137 were from urban localities.
To curb the outbreak, extensive containment measures are underway. “So far, 17,176 houses around affected areas have been sprayed, and fogging drives have been conducted to kill adult mosquitoes,” Dr. Mazhar said. He added that 12,493 positive mosquito breeding sites have been identified and eliminated this month alone.
In total, health teams have carried out over 610,000 anti-dengue activities, including awareness campaigns, spraying, and larvicidal measures, as part of intensified vector control efforts.
